About

James Weisz is an Essex-based filmmaker dedicated to telling bold, emotionally resonant stories. As a queer writer-director, he centres LGBTQIA+ lives in his work, exploring identity and connection. His films invite audiences into new perspectives with clarity, curiosity, and empathy. James is currently developing a slate of short films with Troika Film Collective.

  • ADONIS - Currently in Post Production

  • ABOUT FACE (as co-writer)— Best Film and Audience Choice at Ximagine Film Festival; screened at Filmapalooza Lisbon.

  • IN BATTLE — European premiere at LAB111 Amsterdam; selections include Loudest Whispers and Norwich International Queer Film Festival.

  • SILVER LINING — international festival nominations and selections.

  • CAMINHO — poetic Portuguese short inspired by The Road Not Taken; selected as Best Experimental Short at Onyko Awards.

  • PARALLAX POINT — experimental dance film; opened the Screen Dance strand at Leeds International Film Festival.

First-Class BA (Creative Media Arts), University of Westminster, & London Film Academy 2021

Teaching

Lecturer in writing and professional practice, teaching across the UK and internationally, including Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts, ROM Theatre Arts, University of Chichester, South Essex College, Dubai Performing Arts and the University of Westminster.
